SOUNDCHECK - by Rick Fulton, Friday May 2nd
SALON BORIS
Russian singer Tatyana Bugayev and Glaswegian Tom McGarrigle stake their claim as Scotland's best electonica outfit.
From their stately Japanese neon of album opener 'Why', to the pumped-up Euro-pop of 'Picture of You', their second album, 'Vsegda Bobik', has everything you could want in a techno-driven world.
Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk, Japan, Donna Summer, Primal Scream – they are all stuffed in here and the album even includes an ice-cold cover of Transvision Vamp's 'I Want Your Love'.
'I Need You' is a huge club tune with Tatyana sounding like Bobby Gillespie circa Screamadelica all blessed-out knowing.
'Beautiful' mixes Eurodisco with Trance, while 'Telegram' is a Letter to Brezhnev sung by Nico. The album scheduled for the end of June, ends with a remix of Picture of You by mash up genius Mark Vidler.
The duo play at the End of the Month Club, Glasgow on May 31 and Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh on June 12.
